How Many Questions Are on the Citizenship Test?

The 2025 civics test has 128 questions to study and the officer asks up to 20. The 2008 test has 100 questions and the officer asks up to 10. Under 65/20, you study 20 and are asked 10.

It depends on which test you take. The officer picks questions from the official list and asks them out loud.

  • 2025 test: 128 questions to study. The officer asks up to 20.
  • 2008 test: 100 questions to study. The officer asks up to 10.
  • 65/20 special consideration: 20 marked questions to study. The officer asks 10.

Why “up to”?

The officer stops as soon as you pass, or as soon as you can no longer pass. On the 2025 test, if your first 12 answers are correct, you’re done after 12 questions.
