How to Study for the Citizenship Test in 2 Weeks

A two-week study plan for the civics test: how many questions to practice a day, how to use flashcards, audio and mock tests, and what to practice for the interview itself.

Updated

Two weeks is enough time to go through every question several times. The app recommends a daily goal that covers all the questions for your test about three times before your interview. For 14 days, that works out to:

TestQuestionsDaily goal
2025 test12830 a day (Intense, about 15 minutes)
2008 test10030 a day (Intense, about 15 minutes)
65/20205 a day (Casual, about 3 minutes)

A little every day works better than cramming.

Week 1: learn every answer

  • Go through the questions one section at a time with flashcards. Say the answer out loud before you flip the card.
  • Use listen mode while you commute or cook: Officer Michael reads each question and its answer.
  • Look up your state’s answers for the senator, representative, governor and capital questions.

Week 2: test yourself

The day before

  • Check that you know who is in office now, for both the national and the state questions.
  • Pack everything on the checklist.
  • Your answers must match your N-400. Review your copy before the interview.
